I don't know which one of you decided to piss off Mother Nature enough for her to cause a (record-breaking) May heatwave IN THE MIDDLE OF EXAMS. I should be outside, on Windmill Hill, getting my tan on; instead, I'm stuck on floor four of the library, packed like a tin of sardines and having to go and fill my water bottle every five minutes...

These cosmic rays must be flipping the bits inside my brain, because I've completely lost all cognitive function and ability to revise. Don't even get me started on trying to sleep in this hellish weather when my room is south-facing, on the top floor, and has windows large enough to be legally classified as a greenhouse. Every time I decide to get some well-deserved rest, I wake up in a pool of sweat large enough to gaslight me into thinking I never really grew out of wetting the bed.

tmi? sorry, at least in a week's time it will be back down to 8° and rainy; that's more like it.

Outreach / Ethnic Minority / Postgrad Elections

New and shiny exec roles! Come along for the chance to make UWCS history!

We're holding elections for the following roles on Wednesday 27th of May, 5pm.

Membership is required by Wednesday 13th of May, 5pm in order to vote.

More information is available in the #elections-info channel in our Discord server.

Roles

• Ethnic Minority Representative - Facilitate engagement & create a more welcoming environment in the society for students of colour with an interest in Computer Science. Host varied events to support these goals.

• Postgraduate Representative - Facilitate postgraduate engagement with UWCS events, and create a welcoming environment for PGR/PGT members. Hold varied events to help create this community.

• Outreach Officer - Coordinate with the rest of exec, building and maintaining relationships with external organisations and stakeholders - e.g. sponsors, external speakers, Uni departments and other societies. Assist the treasurer with negotiating sponsorships, and academics with organising external speakers.

Ethnic Minority Rep is a protected role to those self-identifying as members of an Ethnic Minority.

Postgraduate Rep is a protected role to only PGT/PGR students. This role will be elected again in term 1.

To stand for any of these roles, you need to email the DRO with your name, student ID and a short manifesto (manifesto not strictly required).

Motions

Constitutionally changing motions must be received by the DRO 7 days before the election.

If they are received after Wednesday 20th May, 5pm they will not be voted on.

Non-binding motions can be raised at any point, including on the night.

Deputy Returning Officer

A Deputy Returning Officer is an impartial person who is in charge of the election and vote counting.

In this case, your Deputy Returning Officer is Thomas Sweet - contactable via Discord (tomo.li) or via email at returning-officer@uwcs.co.uk.

Should you feel the DRO cannot assist with your query, get in contact with Returning Officer (officially the SU/Student Voice) via email at studentvoice@warwicksu.com.

Run Club

I don't know which psychopaths want to run in this heat -- but respect.

Weekly runs, open to all members and friends of UWCS. An average week might look like a 5k around campus on a pre-planned route, but be ready for impromptu shenanigans as we are always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our attendees.

FOR ALL ABILITY LEVELS. Whether this is your first or five hundredth time running, please show up, we're really nice!

Sadly the window in CS0.07 is still broken, and thus the room is still not open. Sad times. CURSE YOU, PIG STATUE!

Also, same as last week applies: we'll be wrapping FNG up at 1am due to threats from our overlord TomTom exam season

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Term 3 LAN will be happening Friday 26th June - Sunday 28th June (Week 9) in LIB2! We'll have more info for you soon, but if there's any societies you'd like to see us collab with, or you'd like to run your own scheduled event (e.g. could be a tournament for a game you like), let us know!
