📣📣ALAS THE NEWSLETTERS HAVE RESUMED!!1!!1

Greetings everybody and welcome back to Term 3, the term of never-ending Junction Hall, all-nighters in the library, and finding out just how much caffeine you can consume before your left ventricle pops.

For those of you who've been living under a rock, Ray stepped down as one of our wonderful secretaries last term (they actually managed to do it this time!). Unfortunately, this means you're now stuck with me, Odin (a.k.a. hydrxde), for the next fifty-two weeks, or until my resignation, whichever comes first. The good news is, Crystal is still here to make sure things don't become too unhinged. We're planning to alternate weekly, so if that pattern breaks: assume the worst...

Like all good secretaries, I've managed to leave the writing of this newsletter to the Sunday evening before it goes out. Like many of you (I hope), I've been stuck on the coursework grind over the Easter break and have had little time to prepare for the upcoming exams (bad, bad, very bad). Lucky for you, we have our usual carousel of events to kick-start your term. So, instead of praying for mercy from the powers that be (Archbold, Lazic, Dixon, etc.), come along to our revision sessions and cram to your heart's content!

💜 Welfare Notice

UWCS has three Welfare Officers: Willow (Discord: moshimoo), Kevin (Discord: yummycatfood), and Erica (Discord: heldesar). They can also be reached via their email inbox at welfare@uwcs.co.uk.

You can speak to them at any time via Discord, email, and in person, for advice, signposting, and support. This can be for navigating the uni's support services, disclosing inappropriate or concerning behaviour at one of our events, and much more.

Any discussions you have with them will be treated sensitively. They will not share details more widely without your permission, except where they believe there is a serious risk of harm, a safeguarding concern, or another situation where they are required to escalate.

🎮 Friday Night Gaming (7pm to 1am)

🕖 Fri 1st May 7pm - Sat 2nd May 1am 📍 CS0.03

The calm before the storm...

Friday Nights. Gaming. FNG. That's all we've known. PCs, consoles, VR, snacks and drinks. The pinnacle. The untoppable and unstoppable force. Sometimes you must choose between the last U1 and continuing Never Gonna Give You Up on Clone Hero. Your home for some beats? Aye, a worthy sacrifice.

Join us in DCS every Friday from 7pm, until we close our doors at 1am due to exam season.

The Gaming Coordinators this year are: Raven, Laina, Luna, Santiago and Maddie - if you need help or just wanna yap, come find us :)

We have our DCS account login - any game (including via Steam!) that you can get running, you can play. We also have several consoles, including Xboxes, PS4, Switch 1 & 2, Wii, along with our PCs which I call Nuke Machine and Microwave, which you can use our Valve Index on, play Clone Hero, and more! We also have board games for anybody wanting a less tech-based way to enjoy games :)

Important: FNG is a sober event, please don't bring alcohol in, or you will be asked to leave. Also Important: Make sure to tidy up after yourself before leaving, the department does a great kindness in letting us run this event, preferably we stay on their good side!

Hope to see you there :3 (Note: you don't have to be a DCS student to come along!)

🎤 Viva Practice Presentations

🕑 Sat 2nd May 2pm - 6pm 📍 CS1.04

Ever wanted to know what it's like to interrogate a nervous third-year?

A series of Third-year Project Viva presentations. The presentation schedule will be made available on Discord shortly before the event.

Are you a Second Year? Drop in if you're curious about what a Viva looks like! Are you a Postgrad? There'll be Q&A segments after each presentation - some questions would be greatly appreciated! Are you none of the above? Come listen to some cool presentations anyways!

That's all for now! Come back next week for a peek at what's going on inside Crystal's brain...
