Seeing as Baz is going, and Tom (Worley) is going, we will have enough hubs, and a BNC uplink. Henry (Southgate) is bringing a Linux box to use as a bridge, so we should be able to configure the network quite easily.

Barry found a good deal on an 8-way switch - and whilst the particular price he found was a limited-time offer, it was decided that it would be a good idea to get one. Kit comes with three network cards and three lengths of cable. Barry to talk to Ryan and start purchase.

Gaming and the last LAN party have been going well - but we could do with more organisation at LANs, specifically with getting the network set up. A Hub was suggested, or a Switch - Baz to investigate the possibilities. We would need at least 8 sockets - probably no more would be needed since member’s hubs could be daisychained. Henry Southgate also mentioned at the last LAN that he may be able to bring a Linux box to act as a bridge. Talk to Henry nearer time of next LAN.

It was proposed that a sign be made for gaming sessions, to put on the door to warn non-members of what is going on, so they don’t walk in, look confused and lost and disturb people. Jake to create.

Chris Salmon, as his first Act Of Iron Dominance for the year he serves as president, decreed that the Minutes should bve written up /without/ the vernacular humour that graced earlier editions. The Secretary and Vice President noted that this institution was in fact started by him, but nonetheless, terms such as ‘Jedi Persuasion’ shall be now absent from the minutes writeup, and the minutes shall correctly be correctly spelt and not referred to as the ‘minnits’.

It was noted that Ryan has obtained quite a few plastic wallets, but these were slightly larger than credit-card size. Solutions were dicsussed, again:
Chris Smith and Barry to look into prices of Laminaters. Ryan to bring a few wallets to next meeting, so we can try cutting them down to various sizes. (This means we will not be able to return said box, of course.)

Filmsoc have replied, saying that they would like to challenge us on Thursday week 10. It was noted that many members would have gone home by then, and so Chris to mail Filmsoc to ask for a game at the start of the first term next year. It was noted that we would need about 12 people to play.

This went well, but we are to remind people to bring cable next time, as we had a shortage.

It was noted that the non-CS playing attempt was good, but that we need to get a more solid base of games to play. It was decided that we would try RA, TA again and Bomberman. It was suggested that the society could purchase some headphones to be lent to people without them at the gaming sessions. It was also suggested that the event be moved to Saturday next term.

This has been booked for Wednesday week 10 from 7pm. It was decided that we should organise a pub-crawl after the AGM, to try and get more members attending.

Lazerlizard has proved to be quite expensive, about £13 for 2 x A4 picture on one shirt. Chris Smith to keep investigating possible printers.

Chris Smith has confirmed that this is from 9pm to 9am. It was also suggested that some posters be produced to try and whet both member and non-member interest in the event. Where we will get the T-shirts printed has not been decided, though it was decided that we ask LaserLizard for prices.
